Alligator Clips for Bows
When making hair bows you need to keep in mind what type of clip you are going to attach to your hairbow to. I prefer alligator clips for most of my bows since they stay well in small girls hair. The clip shown above is a single prong clip. You could also use a double prong clip if you prefer. It’s just based on your personal preference and what you can find for sale. If you cannot find these clips in your local craft store, try a hairdresser’s supply store like Sally Beauty or an online search.
Alligator clips for hair bows will hold really well in small girls hair if you properly line them with grosgrain ribbon. Older girls will even like this type of clip because it is easy to use on their hair (versus the French barrettes which can be tricky to use). While there are a number of different types of clips you can use (both metal and plastic), my first preference for about 90% of my bows (except for cheer bows) is this type of alligator clip. I like to use the single prong clips for most of my bows. If you line them properly the hairbow will stay really well in your little girl’s hair and even babies with very fine hair can use this hairclip since it really does stay well in comparison to other types of barrettes you can use.

I love alligator clips! However, I’ve found they stay best if you put a thin layer of silicone ( aquarium sealant) on the inside bottom of the clip after it is lined. You have to them clip them onto a dowel rod to keep them open and allow them to dry for 24 hours. Works great and is a lot cheaper than buying the no-slip liners.

Cool I haven’t heard of that. I just heard about gluing down a small piece of that foamy drawer or shelf liner that seems to work well too! Thanks!
